Connecting Benelux Retailers with Our Members in Shanghai
On September 8, the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai welcomed a delegation of 40 Benelux retail companies together with our member RetailDetail. A full day of company visits was followed by our "Retail Rendezvous" at the Consulate General of Belgium in Shanghai, bringing the delegation together with our members for an evening of insights and networking.

The day started with visits to JD.COM, Meituan, SUNMI and rednote, giving the group a first-hand look at China’s retail landscape. From e-commerce and delivery to retail technology and digital consumer experiences, there was plenty to discover and discuss.

At the Consulate, Jan Van Loon, founder of White Caviar, gave a seminar on how retail experiences in China are changing. He shared insights into consumer behaviour, the connection between online and offline shopping, and the growing role of AI. A key takeaway was the importance of adapting to local expectations, from the products on offer to convenience and customer service.
We were also pleased to welcome Jean-Yves Lu, founder of Epermarket, and Guillaume Mallet, director at System in Motion, for the panel discussion. Thank you both for sharing your experience and perspectives with the group!

The evening continued with a networking reception, where the delegation met Benelux Chamber members already active in China. Many new connections were made as participants shared experiences, asked questions and explored where they could support each other or work together.
For us, this exchange is an essential part of welcoming a delegation. Company visits show what is happening in China, while conversations with our members help put those experiences into perspective. Equally, meeting visiting companies gives our members the chance to hear what is happening in the Benelux, exchange ideas and look for opportunities together.
