Event Recap: Benelux Chamber Legal Day 2026
On 10 September, the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai welcomed business professionals and legal experts to Fumin Guild Hall for Legal Day 2026. Five law firms from our Chamber community shared their expertise on legal and compliance issues affecting companies in China.

The Benelux Chamber recognises the growing importance of creating opportunities like Legal Day for its business community. Legal and compliance considerations are no longer matters for the legal department alone. Increasingly, these issues are boardroom decisions, with implications for finance, HR, management, compliance and business operations across the organisation. By bringing legal experts and business professionals together, Legal Day provided a valuable platform to better understand these developments and discuss their practical impact on companies. Here is one takeaway from each participating firm.
Shaohe Law Firm — AI governance
Everyday tasks such as summarising a customer document can expose confidential information when employees use unapproved AI tools. The session highlighted the importance of clear rules on what employees can upload and who reviews the output.

Huiye Law Firm — Employee data protection
Protecting employee information continues after someone leaves the company. A clear offboarding procedure should distinguish between records that need to be retained and data that should be deleted.

Duan & Duan Law Firm — Export controls
Export compliance also deserves attention when sharing technology, software or technical information overseas. The presentation emphasised checking what is being transferred and its intended use early in the process.

JunZeJun Law Offices (Shanghai) — Criminal risk prevention
Keeping personal and company finances separate is an essential safeguard. The session highlighted clear expense records and internal reporting channels as practical measures to address bribery and embezzlement risks.

DaWo Law Firm Shanghai — Brand protection
Keeping evidence of how a trademark is used, such as invoices, packaging and advertising materials, helps companies protect their brand. The session highlighted the importance of collecting these records routinely so they are ready when infringement occurs.

Between sessions, participants continued the conversations over coffee, exchanging experiences and following up with the speakers.
Thank you to all five participating firms for sharing their expertise, and to everyone who joined us for Legal Day 2026.
