Songjiang Day 2026: Innovation, History, and Community in Shanghai's Rising District

Building strong relationships remains at the heart of doing business in China. This is exactly why the Benelux Chamber of Commerce continues to create opportunities for its members to engage directly with key districts across Shanghai. On June 5, we brought together over 20 members and guests for a full-day visit to Songjiang District, one of Shanghai's most dynamic development zones, where cutting-edge technology and millennia of history sit side by side.

The day began at the G60 Science & Technology Innovation Valley Planning Exhibition Hall, offering a panoramic look at one of China's most ambitious regional innovation corridors. Spanning nine cities across Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui, the G60 corridor showcases breakthroughs in strategic emerging industries, from mass-produced monocrystalline silicon ingots to record-breaking miniature camera modules and satellite launch models.

The group then made its way to the Tencent Yangtze River Delta AI Supercomputing Center, one of the most powerful computing facilities in Asia. Home to over 50,000 servers and 48,000 GPUs, the center serves as a core infrastructure hub for AI large models, intelligent driving, smart cities, and low-altitude economy applications, a striking testament to the pace of China's digital transformation.

The delegation subsequently met with Songjiang District authorities at the District Administrative Center, where Chamber President Victor Bekink addressed the group and local officials, reflecting on the ties between the Benelux business community and Songjiang, and the opportunities ahead for deeper collaboration.

After a working lunch, the afternoon took a cultural turn with a drive through Thames Town before arriving at the Guangfulin Cultural Relics Park, which is considered one of the most significant archaeological sites in the lower Yangtze River region. Its underwater and semi-buried exhibition halls walk visitors through Shanghai's complete civilizational arc, from ancient land formation to the modern metropolis.
