A Taste Of Orange Fever

Last Saturday evening, Tomatito transformed into a true Holland House as members and friends of the Dutch community gathered for Orange Fever: Herring Night & Netherlands vs. Sweden. Organized jointly by the Nederlandse Vereniging Shanghai (NVS) and the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, with the generous support of the Dutch Consulate General in Shanghai, the event brought together Dutch nationals and friends of the Netherlands for an evening filled with good food, great company, and football excitement.

Attendees could pick from a selection of beloved Dutch delicacies, including traditional herring, bitterballen, huzarensalade, and mackerel salad. The relaxed atmosphere provided the perfect setting for reconnecting with familiar faces, meeting new members of the community, and celebrating a shared piece of home in the heart of Shanghai.

The evening also marked an exciting new chapter for the Nederlandse Vereniging Shanghai, as two new board members were officially introduced to the community. The NVS is committed to strengthening the Dutch network in Shanghai and creating even more opportunities for connection and engagement in the months ahead.

Adding to the festive spirit was a lucky draw. Attendees had the chance to win a pair of Loop earplugs as well as a KNVB beanie and scarf set, much to the delight of the crowd.

As the evening progressed, attention turned to the main event: the FIFA World Cup match between the Netherlands and Sweden. Dressed in orange and cheering enthusiastically from Shanghai, supporters watched as the Dutch team delivered an impressive performance. The Netherlands secured a commanding 5–1 victory, giving everyone plenty of reasons to celebrate long after the final whistle.

With plenty of orange on display, good conversations around the table, and a memorable Dutch victory on screen, Orange Fever was a chance for the Dutch community in Shanghai to come together, reconnect, and enjoy a little taste of home.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening a success. We look forward to seeing you again at the next community event!
